Irish split second straight doubleheader

The Irish split their second straight doubleheader, this time against rival Abilene. This has been a very shaky season for the Irish, who dropped to 4-12 on the season with only two doubleheaders left.

Junior Gabe Barten got the ball for game one of the Irish’s Senior Night. Barten cruised through the first inning, allowing no runs after walking the leadoff batter for the Cowboys. The Irish bats came out hot against Abilene’s ace Glen Freiderich, who walked the first three Irish batters before striking out Trent Hodson. Noah Riegel walked in a run, giving the Irish a 1-0 lead. Following the Riegel walk, Erik Lemon hit a two-run single. Following that, the Irish got a big three-run home run from third baseman Kobey Stroud to take a 6-0 lead into the second inning.
