Fighting Irish bring home 3 State Champions

The Chapman Irish Track team brought home three State Champions and four broken school records when they went to the State Track Meet in Wichita on May 25th and 26th. Thousands of fans gathered in Cessna Stadium to watch the largest high school track meet in the nation. There was nothing but excitement throughout the day as the athletes prepared to run in such a large event. This was what they had prepared the whole season for, so stakes were very high. However, the athletes all performed very well. Taylor Briggs was nominated for the girl’s track MVP runner by multiple people for her very high performances. She ran better than she did all season, breaking her school record in the 1600m with a time of 5:09.06 and the school record in the 3200m with a time of 11:03.78. She was the State Champion in both of these events. One very exciting event for the girl’s track team was the 4x800m relay. This relay featured Madison Smith, McKenna Kirkpatrick, Lindsey Anderson, and Taylor Briggs. Not only did they smash the school record with a time of 9:42.21, but they also were the State Champion.
