Chapman Track rained out in Minneapolis; shines in Wamego

This week, the Chapman High School track team competed in two meets. On Tuesday, May 1, the track team traveled to Minneapolis, KS. There were many good performances in the field events, including Izek Jackson’s first place finish in the junior varsity javelin throw and McKenna Kirkpatrick’s third place finish in long jump. The running events started with the girls 4x800, consisting of Madison Smith, McKenna Kirkpatrick, Madeline Elliott and Taylor Briggs, placing second. Malik Watkins finished third and Blake Vercher fifth in the 100-meter dash while Izek Jackson received second in the 110-meter high hurdles. Taylor Briggs and Madison Smith both received good placings in the mile; Briggs got first while Smith placed fourth. However, shortly after the girl’s mile, the meet was cancelled due to severe storms. Although it was disappointing for the team to not end the meet, they were still able to get some good practice and see some worthy competition.
