Chapman has strong showing at 2018 NCKL Championships

“League was a great experience for my first year of high school track,” commented freshman Taylor Briggs, the 2018 NCKL Champion in the 1600m and 3200m. “I think the team did very well overall and I enjoy being on a team with everyone.” Briggs was one of the several athletes that traveled to the NCKL league meet in Clay Center last Friday, May 11. Along with being champion and all-league, Briggs was also a member of the 4x800 meter relay that placed second, including Madison Smith, McKenna Kirkpatrick, and Madeline Elliott. However, Briggs was not the only champion that Chapman brought home. Aaron Modrow placed first in both the 1600m and 3200m runs along with Malik Watkins capturing the gold in the 100m dash.

Watkins also brought home a second place in the 200m and was on the 4x400m relay that placed second; he was joined by Anthony Wasylk, Eli Winder, and Izek Jackson. Other second place finishers were Blake Vercher in the long jump and McKenna Kirkpatrick in the 400m, while Madison Smith placed 3rd in the 1600m run.
