I was visiting with our daughter in Australia recently. She has completed a university degree in early childhood education which required some group sessions and conversations with young children. During one of her sessions a boy in the group brought tea time snacks that included a package of dates. Many of the children were unfamiliar with the fruit and were asking about his treat. Lindy invited the boy to describe his offering to the other children. After a moment of thought, he responded by saying, “A date is a fruit that looks like a cockroach and tastes like a lolly [candy].
